Ema Degnen, Founder & Principal Designer
Graduating from Brighton University in the UK, I've been working in the field of design for more than 20 years. With a background and education in fashion and textile design, I bravely swam across the Atlantic in the early 90's to continue my career in New York. My bilingual skills (both English AND American!) guided my success at LIz Claiborne, Dana Buchman, Saks 5th Avenue and Barney's New York.
In 2016, I transitioned into residential and retail design with the formation of Ema Degnen Design. I embrace a holistic approach, placing importance on everyday needs as well as budget and design. My work has an elevated mix of color, texture and pattern. I delight in the opportunity to solve logistical issues, adhere to budgets and approach each new project's expected challenges with enthusiasm and a wealth of energy. At the end of the day, my hope is to create beautiful and practical interiors tailored for you.
In 2025, we expanded our service offerings with the launch of Zhuzh by Ema, a real estate staging company. Working alongside industry professionals, our team uses an accessible, flexible but organized approach. At Zhuzh, our hope is to minimize stress while maximizing property value.
Overall, I love working directly with clients. So, whether you're measuring in centimeters or inches, love color or neutrals, I look forward to helping you reach your design and staging goals.

Jennifer Reinharz, Director of Operations & Marketing
At Ema Degnen Design | Zhuzh by Ema, it’s my priority and a joy to deliver on Ema’s vision for her work, clients and company. Ema and I teamed up in the summer of 2024 and together, we launched our real estate staging arm, Zhuzh by Ema in 2025.
With over 20 years of combined experience in business and education, my work at JP Morgan Chase and after a career shift, in my elementary/preschool classrooms sharpened the planning and multitasking acumen, attention to detail and creative thinking needed to manage operations, embrace marketing and meet staging expectations and timelines.
I've lived in Westchester, first in Larchmont and now Pleasantville for 30 years where my husband and I raised two sons. Outside the world of interior design and staging, you’ll find me co-chairing Pleasantville Friends of the Visual arts, working out, enjoying time with friends and when the weather permits, relaxing on my porch.
